Ian Howard is COFA's dean but also an internationally exhibiting artist. With an artistic career that began in the 1960s and continues to the present day, his work explores fences and walls and the issues that surround these divisions.

His work spans the last 5 decades and has been made at some of the most contended walls and borders of this time. These include the Berlin Wall dividing East and West Germany in the 1970s, the walls of Derry in Northern Ireland in 1974 through to present day borders such as that dividing North and South Korea and Israel and Palestine.
