Ian Howard examines the new economy in walls and fences, and the psychological and creative resistance toward physical barriers. Ian has done rubbings of many different notable walls and other sites of military entrenchment, working with Australian, British, Chinese and USA defense forces, including the Pentagon, gaining access to highly secret facilities and equipment 'for artistic purposes'.

Ian Howard is the Dean of the College of Fine Arts in New South Wales. Ian is trained as an artist and art educator, has taught visual arts at secondary and tertiary levels in Australia, England, USA and Canada. Practicing since 1968, concentrating on the relationship between civilian and military cultures, including works in regional, state (including QAG), national and international galleries.
