Alan Krell discusses his new book, "Burning Issues: Fire and Art in the Social Imagination". Alan has explored fire in art from the Greek myth of Prometheus to use of fire, both creatively and literally, in modern art, and looked at these works of art in the context of society and its relationship to fire, the "dreadful prankster".
Alan Krell is Associate Professor at the School of Art History and Art Education, College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. He is also the author of Manet and the Painters of Contemporary Life (1996) and The Devil's Rope: A Cultural History of Barbed Wire (Reaktion Books, 2002).
