Michael Kempson reflects on his life and work, and looks at how his father's work in the clergy translates into his own experiences as an artist.

Michael Kempson is a senior lecturer in the School of Art and Director of Cicada Press at the College of Fine Arts. He is an artist who in the final analysis is a story teller, but his narratives are never as simple as they first appear. They are more like allegorical fables, even sermons, but ones which touch on the very essence of our existence. He is a master of the visual metaphor, where a squashed beer can, a discarded bottle or a stray shopping trolley - the detritus of our urban society - is imbued with a symbolic presence and serves as a gloss on the human condition.

This talk was filmed on Tuesday 28th February, 2012, as part of the COFA Talks series.
