COFA Talks - Gene Sherman and Janet Laurence in Conversation
Watch this on your iPod - Vodcast available here
Janet Laurence discusses her work, including her current installation After Eden, with Dr Gene Sherman. After Eden, which explores the theme of an animal hospital, is on at the Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF).
Janet Laurence is an artist whose work echoes architecture while retaining organic qualities and a sense of instability and transience. Her work occupies the liminal zones or meeting places of art, science, imagination and memory. Alchemical transformation, history and perception are underllying themes in her exhibition work.
Dr Gene Sherman is Chairman and Executive Director of Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF), a Sherman family philanthropic enterprise dedicated to the public exhibition of significant contemporary art from Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. She assumed this role following twenty-one years as Director and Proprietor of Sherman Galleries (1986-2007).
In September 2010, Dr. Sherman and her husband Brian Sherman donated two million dollars to COFA towards the college's redevelopment program.
This talk was filmed on Tuesday April 24th as part of the COFA Talks series.
